Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon) is a shallow salt lake in the southwest of the altiplano of Bolivia, within Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve and close to the border with Chile.
Located at 4300 m above sea level and covers over 60 sq. km. The fiery red shades are caused by planktons that thrive in the water rich of sodium, magnesium, borax and gypsum.
This place is home to some 40,000 flamingos of three different species, but the rare James flamingos have the highest concentration.
