Masaya Volcano

Masaya Volcano is a large basaltic volcanic caldera located 20 km south of Managua. Masaya continually emits large amounts of sulfur dioxide gas from the active Santiago crater.
The Masaya Volcano, also known as POPOGATEPE meaning the “mountain that burns” in the language of the indigenous Chorotega tribe.
